Maximize humanity’s chances of detecting a signal from an extraterrestrial civilization through supporting projects and people involved in SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)
Detection of a signal from another civilization will divide human history into before and after. The significance of this event is difficult to overestimate.
We are of the view that the search for extraterrestrial civilizations is a strictly applied scientific task.
It is impossible to prove the absence of extraterrestrial civilizations, since this would require examining every stone in the universe.
At the same time, it is possible to prove the existence of another civilization. To do this, it is enough to catch the signal and prove its artificial origin. Finding signals and studying their nature is what you need to do if you want to find extraterrestrial civilization.
No matter how small the probability of intelligence appearing in the universe is, it is definitely greater than zero, since we exist. Multiplying non-zero probability by an infinite universe, we get an infinite number of intelligent civilizations. They may be scattered billions of light years apart, or they may live in neighboring star systems.
We do not answer the question “Are we alone?” We answer the question “Have we done everything possible to catch a signal from the civilization closest to us?”
Answer: of course not. The fact is that at the moment we, humanity, have explored less than 0.001% of the possible channels and methods of sending a signal.
Just imagine: if in the nearest star system there is an intelligent civilization that sends us a New Year’s greeting signal once a year at a frequency of 21 MHz, we will not know about it. There is no instrument that monitors the entire sky at this frequency year-round. How many more opportunities are we missing?
